About/Notes: I found pre-production invaluable after my Film Production I piece, and wished to continue that trend for Film Production II. I also wanted to try making a film with a script someone else wrote instead of something I wrote/envisioned. My brother wrote World’s Greatest Dad, which was approximately 15 pages. On the first day of class though our teacher told us, due to the fact we would be ordering workprint and also conforming this workprint to our digital edits, that the film could not be over 4 minutes in length. Not having much time to think of another idea, and due to the fact I really liked what my brother wrote, I attempted to condense the script to a fit within the time limit. In the end, I like how the film turned out, but I also see that it had the potential to be much more. My only real complaints are the feeling that the piece is rushed and the low-quality ADR work, which was my first experience at ADR.

I do not blame the class guidelines for this because at the end of the semester it became clear why such boundaries were set. With ordering film, getting it processed, and ordering workprint, the expenses piled up. The time it took to complete the class objectives also built up, as we had to conform our workprint to a digital edit we did. This means that we had to cut the actual film and splice pieces together to match what we edited digitally. It was a fun exercise and something I wouldn’t mind doing again, but it was very time consuming.
